Beginning in his childhood, Bro. Tharp’s parents served the Lord most of his life. He is one of three sons who are pastors, his sisters are all servants of the Lord as well. He surrendered to preach as a boy at age 11 and knew he would be a pastor. Upon graduating from Bible College he went to Massachusetts in June of 1986 and started the Mountain View Baptist Church with his wife and 1 year old son Eric Jon. He worked a full time job for the first 7 years and built two buildings on 14 acres of raw land in the city of Holyoke. Dr. Tom Malone and Midwestern honored him with an honorary doctorate degree in May 2001. Bro. Tharp and his family established a Bible-centered, fundamental Baptist Church that continues to thrive to this very day under the leadership of one of his staff men, Pastor Chad Correia.

Bro. and Mrs. Tharp had 4 children, and on November 28, 2003 their son Eric was killed in a car accident. He was 18 years old. This set in motion a series of sorrowful events that resulted in his resignation of Mountain View Baptist Church almost 2 years later on August 5, 2005. The Tharps left behind a ministry of over 19 years sensing the great need to heal from their loss. They moved along with their 3 remaining children to Santa Clara, California. After two years Pastor Tharp then accepted the call to Faith Baptist Church in Yuma, Arizona in August 2007.

In January of 2009, a call came from Central Valley Baptist Church in Manteca, California where the Tharps served until January of 2017.

Bro. Tharp resigned CVBC on January 8, 2017 to become the Co-Pastor of North Valley Baptist Church in Santa Clara, CA. Due to unforeseen circumstances, that arrangement was cut short and in May of 2017, Bro. and Mrs. Tharp departed Santa Clara. From May of 2017 to May 2018, the Tharp’s were used of the Lord preaching, singing, and teaching in meetings across the country. In May of 2018 Dr. Tharp began his ministry as the Pastor of Trident Baptist Church.
